Abstract

Introduction. The development of modern laboratory technologies makes it possible to determine the individual characteristics of the composition of breast milk (BM) and the nutritional needs of newborns. The purpose of the study. To study the features of the amino acid, fat and trace element profile of BM depending on the stage of lactation and the gestational age of the child. Materials and methods. For analysis, 21 breast milk samples were taken on days 3, 7, and 21 from women who gave birth on time (n=12) and prematurely (n=9). Results. Significant differences in the composition of breast milk in the profile of threonine, tryptophan, and taurine were demonstrated. When studying the composition of fatty acids, the results were characterized by a high content of essential polyunsaturated fatty acids in premature infants from early stages of lactation. Despite the lack of statistically significant differences in our study due to the small sample size, the findings are in line with the trends observed in numerous research studies and literature reviews, which have demonstrated correlations between milk composition and lactation stage, as well as gestational age at delivery. When examining the levels of micronutrients, including essential elements, we observed significant variability in the samples. The assessment of elements such as zinc and manganese revealed a pronounced deficiency in mature milk from women with full-term pregnancies. In two samples, we also found elevated levels of tin and lead. Conclusion. Given the small sample size and the experimental nature of the study, further research is required.
