Assessment of rehabilitation potential in children with disabilities: a realistic perspective or a formality? (Literature review)
REVIEWS
Abstract
Introduction.Rehabilitation potential is the individual’s ability to recover, given their physiological and personal characteristics. The assessment of rehabilitation potential level is viewed either as a practical tool for predicting the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs or as a formal procedure aimed at the rational use of healthcare system resources. The aimis to analyze modern approaches to the assessment of rehabilitation potential in children.Materials and methods. For the analysis and writing of the literature review, we conducted a search and analysis of scientific publications in Russian or English, indexed in databases such as Pub Med, e LIBRARY, and others, covering the period from 2015 to 2025.Results and conclusions. Competent assessment of rehabilitation potential is an integrated approach of the rehabilitation team to the patient. It includes clinical, neuropsychological, psychological, and social examinations. The experience gained in research shows that the most effective way is assessment of individual parameters and a comprehensive analysis by the team of doctors of all available information about the patient to decide on the effectiveness of upcoming rehabilitation measures.
