Features of the course of celiac disease in children living in the Republic of North Ossetia — Alania

Abstract

Introduction.Celiac disease is characterized by significant clinical polymorphism, which makes it difficult to diagnose and delays the start of pathogenetic treatment, worsening the prognosis of the disease.
The aim— to study the features of the course of celiac disease in children living in the Republic of North Ossetia — Alania.Materials and methods.32 children with celiac disease aged from 7 months to 18 years were examined. The clinical picture and anamnesis of the disease, the presence of concomitant or associated pathology with celiac disease were studied in all patients.Results.It was found that the clinical picture of celiac disease in children living in the Republic of North Ossetia — Alania is characterized by polymorphism with a predominance of the typical course of the disease — 84.3% of cases. However, it should be noted that asymptomatic or asymptomatic celiac disease occurred in 15.7% of patients, which differs from the results of population-based studies.Conclusions.The data obtained in the study may indicate a low awareness of medical professionals regarding the diagnosis of asymptomatic forms of the disease. The presence of extra-intestinal symptoms, which are detected in all patients with celiac disease, should alert a specialist regarding the possible presence of this pathology. The results of the study indicate the need to increase awareness among medical professionals regarding knowledge about celiac disease, which will help to effectively diagnose the disease early among children living in the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, especially with regard to asymptomatic forms.
